Little Known Wart Treatments

Hope for “The Tree Man” and Others with Multiple Warts - Little Known Wart Treatments

Almost everyone gets at least one wart in their lives. Imagine what it would be like to have wart-like growths all over your body, so much so that it greatly interfered with your movements. It does happen, as evidenced by "The Tree Man", whose body parts looked like tree limbs.

The story of Dede Koswara from Indonesia is told in the book "Medical Mysteries: From the Bizarre to the Deadly . . . The Cases That Have Baffled Doctors". There is a chapter on "The Tree Man". Yes, it is a story of sadness, and yet it is a story of hope. At the time of the book writing, Dede was being medically treated and making progress. He just hopes for an ordinary life, much like the life all of us take for granted.

I felt badly reading about Dede and others with EV, so I decided to find out what else could be done. I'm hoping this article will help those in despair with EV and their families.

The medical term for Dede's illness is Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) which is also called Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia or Lutz-Lewandowsky epidermodysplasia verruciformis. It is extremely rare and there is no totally effective treatment method yet

Hope can come in many forms. Of course it is important to be treated by a health care professional, but your doctor might not know of some resources or therapies. If you have EV and are frustrated you're your current progress, show this article to your doctor, and work on it yourself. Help and hope might be just around the corner. You're not alone. Here are some little known resources for those with EV.
  • Orphanet - The portal for rare diseases and orphan drugs - Epidermodysplasia verruciformis - Resource Center of where to go for expert treatment, support groups, further information, etc.
  • "I Have Lutz-lewandowsky Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis - A Lutz-Lewandowsky Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis anonymous support group with information on diagnosis, treatment, symptoms, along with personal stories and experiences with Lutz-Lewandowsky Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis. You're not alone."
  • Hypnotherapy - "Hypnotherapy of Warts Using The Simonton Visualization Technique: A Case Report" by John Morris, Am. Jour. of Clinical Hypnosis. 27(4) 237-240 1985.
  • Coix Seeds - "Tree man' undergoes 2-hour surgery to remove warts" by Arya Dipa, The Jakarta Post, Bandung, Thu, 01/13/2011 - "At the end of December last year, two doctors from Japan, affiliated with the Japanese Society for Complementary and Alternative Medicine came and brought Dede alternative medicine in powder form and made from coix seeds, which are smaller than corn seed. The medicine is still undergoing a lab test. "Although it has been used effectively to cure warts, it still has to be tested," said Rachmat."
  • An Armamentarium of Wart Treatments By: Lipke, Michelle M. Clinical Medicine & Research, Dec2006, Vol. 4 Issue 4, p273-293, 21p (Hypnosis mentioned)
  • Warts: A Medical Dictionary, Bibliography, and Annotated Research Guide to Internet References by: Parker, James N.; Parker, Philip M. ICON Health Publications. 2003. EBook. 332p.
  • For more information, Internet Search this String - (Epidermodysplasia verruciformis OR Lewandowsky-Lutz dysplasia OR Lutz-Lewandowsky epidermodysplasia verruciformis)
From what I've read perhaps the greatest hope might come from hypnotherapy. If you think so too, seek out this cure and believe it can work for you. It has worked for others and can work for you too.

If you have Epidermodysplasia verruciformis, please do not give up hope!

  • As you look around on the Internet, you will find that you are not alone.
  • If others will not do research, do your own.
  • Take charge of your own health care.
  • Be an active partner with your health care team.
  • As you do your own research, maybe you will find the cure that will help you and others.
  • As you learn more, please share with others so that they can learn from you.
  • Research, learning, discovering, and networking are things you can do right today.
  • Start with one small effort to better your health condition.
  • You have the right to be as healthy and happy as you can be.
